Fenwick Haulage Begins
We first started trading as Fenwick Haulage from a small farming community in August 1986 when we bought our first truck carrying stone and aggregates from local quarry’s around the area. We then purchased our first articulated truck and trailer working as a sub-contractor on long and short haul moving stone, coal, coalite, steel, salt etc.
Traction Work
From there we moved on to traction work out of Immingham and Hull docks, pulling all kinds of trailers carrying paper, shoes, pharmaceuticals, steel, paint etc. mostly long haul. We then increased the fleet up to three trucks.
First Car Transporter
In 1990 we bought our first car transporter, we found it very difficult to get into the market due to the fact that you couldn’t source the vehicles to move cars. This was because the larger car transporter companies would scrap any unused vehicles / trailers to prevent any smaller, outsider companies competing for work. This was due to the fact that customers only ever wanted to deal with the larger transport companies. Fenwicks was probably the first ever independent transport company to start up moving cars.
Larger Premises, More Vehicles
In 2002 we moved to a larger premises due to natural growth. David wanted to move into other avenues of transport. After long deliberation he decided to start off a refrigerated transport side of the business. We purchased our first refrigerated van in August 2002, which quickly moved up to the larger 7.5T vehicles in October 2002, operating a number of these vehicles. We received requests from customers for larger vehicles because they were so pleased with works carried out.
First 18T Truck Purchased
In September 2004 we purchased our very first 18T truck. The fleet has been ever growing since this date, resulting in another move as we had again outgrown our premises. We are currently operating approximately 50 vehicles in total. We now have our own workshop facilities and the majority of MOT preparation and preventative maintenance is carried out on our own premises. We acquired an additional 2 acre plot in December 2015, we use this plot to park the majority of our trucks. On this plot we also provide secure parking for other hauliers.
